Leisurely London Summer Evenings

Leisurely London Summer Evenings

It’s been quite some time since I’ve experienced a day like this in London…

London is absolutely delightful in the summertime! There’s so much going on, and with the sun shining, there’s hardly any reason not to get out and enjoy it. Even on days like today when it’s a bit cloudy, the sun peeked through occasionally, so my friends and I decided to meet up and wander around without a specific destination.

I hadn’t had a free weekend in London for what felt like ages, because we usually had travel plans lined up every weekend. So, on this rare free weekend, we decided to take advantage of the semi-sunny weather and grab some food at Borough Market.

Borough Market is a popular spot in London, always busy when it’s open, even during winter. I love the market’s focus on local produce, fresh meals, and the chance to chat with vendors who really know their stuff. I often end up buying ingredients I don’t really need just because they look so enticing. Honestly, how am I supposed to make a meal with sweet corn, an apple, a few baklavas, some cheese, and ground coffee?

We headed straight for the food stalls and chose the Boston Sausage Burger. I ended up having two, and while I can’t justify my greed, it just felt right! With our burgers in hand, we made our way to the grounds of Southwark Cathedral to enjoy them, trying to see how quickly we could eat them.

After the burgers disappeared in record time, we decided to explore more of the market. To be honest, I was already thinking about dessert by then! Next up was coffee, and with the sun making a brief appearance, we decided to change the scene and search for a park to relax and recover from our food coma.

Thankfully, the Imperial War Museum was nearby. As I spotted a Mr Whippy ice cream van, you can probably guess what happened next, so I’ll skip that part…

After chilling on the grass for a bit (and with the sun finally out), we felt a pang of guilt and decided to head into the museum. London is home to some incredible museums, and since they’re free, it’s always a good idea to visit one if you’re close by. Inside is an actual piece of the Berlin Wall…

We strolled through the hallways, which featured massive planes on display. Despite the initial excitement, the Imperial War Museum offered a sobering experience. Some exhibits are hard-hitting, as you might expect from a war museum. It’s definitely worth a visit, serving as a poignant reminder to celebrate our differences and treat each other with love and respect rather than seeing diversity as a flaw.

That’s the beauty of London—just wandering around the city with no specific plans can lead to interesting and spontaneous adventures. So, just meet up with friends and see where your journey takes you!
