They are truly amazing! In my last post, I kept getting sidetracked by food, so here’s that food post I promised. Let’s dive into Pintxos! While they’re technically appetizers, you can enjoy them as a main course if you want. The idea is to hop from one bar to another, enjoying a pintxo (or a couple) with friends and family. You can also sip on a little drink while you’re at it. It might sound like a bar crawl, but it’s really more like visiting mini restaurants for quick bites.
At A Fuego Negro, we found some of the best gourmet pintxos in town. There was one that looked like fish ice cream—at least, I think it was fish. It definitely had a seafood vibe.
I went for squid ink ice cream with creamy rice. It was such a strange combo that had me feeling all kinds of ways as I ate it, but I still devoured it in no time!
Meanwhile, Lloyd was glued to Twitter, and Milou was doing… well, I’m not exactly sure what Milou was up to.
We eventually moved on to other bars, sampling more pintxos! I’m usually not a fan of bread-based dishes, but even the bread-based pintxos were incredible. They tasted far better than I expected, and each one made me eager to try the next. I think the freshness of everything played a big role in how delicious they were.
Just a note—we didn’t eat those peppers! 😉 Not sure why I felt the need to clarify that, but it seemed important to mention that no one was planning to munch on raw peppers! 🙂
How about testing your Basque skills? Can you translate any of the pintxos on the board into a language you know?
Patrizia looked like she was ready to take off with excitement over the pintxos! Aratz was equally thrilled. The excitement was definitely contagious!
Once we were all satiated with pintxos, we shifted to dessert—starting with some ice cream. There were so many cakes to choose from!
The moment I spotted this one, I knew I had to try it! Just look at that!
After the cakes, we washed everything down with some coffee. We were so stuffed that we could barely move and needed a little break to recover from all that food. The Basque country is truly a haven for food lovers!
