Lately, I’ve been really in the mood for pie. And, let’s be honest, that’s not unusual for me—I’m always in the mood for pie! This time, while I was near the supermarket, I thought, “Why not just make one today?” I enjoy all types of pies, except those with mushrooms. I can’t seem to get used to them; they taste like dirt to me! Anyway, back to pies. Today, I was really craving a steak and ale pie, so I headed to my local supermarket to grab the ingredients I needed.
For the ingredients, I already had oil and onions at home. But, as usual, I mistakenly bought more stock cubes, even though I have plenty at home. This always seems to happen, and now I have a cupboard overflowing with them. Maybe I should organize a stock cube giveaway or go on a steak pie baking spree to use them up!
When it came to prepping, I should have used a knife to cube the beef, but scissors were just so much easier for the task. Surprisingly, I used a butter knife to cut up the carrots; I don’t even know why I did that. Oh well!
A little confession: I forgot to glaze the pie with egg or milk before baking it. This step makes the pie look shiny but doesn’t really change the flavor much, so I let it slide. Just remember to glaze yours before baking for that lovely finish.
If you time it right, the pie and chips will be done around the same time, leaving you with a hot and delicious meal! I cooked the chips with their skins on and seasoned them well, which gave them a perfect golden-brown color.
I’d love to chat more, but that pie craving is calling my name! Catch up soon!
