I can’t get enough of the unique combination of flavors, dishes, and street food that Thailand offers. It’s not just about Pad Thai; there’s so much more to explore. The aromatic smells, zesty flavors, and fragrant spices make Thai food irresistible. It’s diverse, going beyond just the popular Thai red and green curries.
If you’re in Thailand or craving some Thai food at home, here are some must-try dishes. Its light and spicy-sour taste leaves you thoroughly satisfied, and it’s certainly one of my favorites.
Another great dish from Northeastern Thailand is the spicy green papaya salad. Packed with shredded green papaya, peanuts, tomatoes, beans, fish sauce, and plenty of chili, it’s a refreshing treat.
For spice lovers, Thai Panang curry is a must. Made by frying red curry paste with chicken and coconut cream, it’s garnished with kaffir lime leaves for a refreshing aroma. Pair it with steamed rice, and you have an easy-to-find, tasty meal.
Pad Thai is perhaps the most well-known and loved Thai dish. It’s available everywhere from restaurants to street carts. You can choose your noodles and protein, like prawns or chicken, and enjoy it cooked in a wok with onions, peanuts, bean sprouts, and an egg. A squeeze of lime and some chili powder (if you can handle it) finish it off perfectly.
Stir-fried beef with garlic, onion, soy sauce, chili, and holy basil leaves is another simple yet flavorful dish to try. It’s a taste sensation!
For something milder, pineapple fried rice combines the sweetness of pineapple with subtle spices, making it a delightful dish. The cashews add a pleasant crunch to every bite.
Thai Green Curry, known as Gaeng Keow Wan, is packed with green curry paste, Thai basil, chicken, and coconut milk. It’s soupy and perfect with steamed rice, making it a dish you can’t miss.
If salads are your favorite, try the spicy Thai salad with onion, lime, dried chili, and beef strips. It’s zingy and fresh, ideal for a lunch packed with flavor.
For a mix of fried catfish and sweet-tangy green mango salad, this dish offers a perfect blend of crispy, savory, and sweet.
Cashew chicken is a milder option with roasted cashews and honey complementing stir-fried chicken. It’s simple yet scrumptious.
The Massaman curry from Southern Thailand, with curry paste, peanuts, coconut milk, and hints of cinnamon and nutmeg, is a mild delight often accompanied by potatoes and rice.
Lastly, Morning Glory or Pak Boong is a health favorite, made with a spinach-like vegetable seasoned with soy sauce, garlic, and chili. It’s a comforting Thai dish you can’t go wrong with.
