On my return trip to Amsterdam, my first meal ended up being from KFC. Even though I felt a bit guilty afterward, I justified it by reminding myself I was really hungry and the KFC was nearby. Although I felt a little bad about my meal choice, I was quite satisfied at the moment.
I don’t have anything against fast food; I actually think it’s pretty enjoyable in moderation. However, when I’m in a different country, I feel like I should be embracing the local cuisine. For example, if I were in Paris and chose McDonald’s for dinner, I’d feel like I was missing out on genuine Parisian food experiences, especially since the food there is excellent!
Anyway, I got over it quickly once I was full! The following day, as I explored the city, I decided to visit de Bijenkorf. It’s well-known as a massive department store, but I was curious about the restaurant at the top. It turned out to be incredible! The variety is excellent, and you can even have your meal freshly prepared right in front of you. Plus, it’s more affordable than the KFC meal, which was a pleasant surprise. If you’re ever in Amsterdam, I highly recommend checking it out, whether for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner!
Amsterdam has plenty of overpriced eateries that target tourists, so finding this hidden gem in such a high-end store was unexpected. If you plan to visit Amsterdam, make sure to stop by de Bijenkorf for a meal. I’d love to hear how it measures up against other places in terms of quality and cost!
