Lisbon is a fantastic city to explore in Portugal, offering a wealth of amazing things to do. Not far from the enchanting town of Sintra, Lisbon is also home to some of the best restaurants that are scattered throughout the city.

Lisbon is vibrant yet manages to maintain an intimate feel, especially when it comes to its food scene. There’s a fantastic range of independent and award-winning eateries showcasing Portuguese cuisine that shouldn’t be missed during your visit. Whether you’re in for a quick bite or a full dinner experience, you’ll find great spots across every neighborhood.

For brunch lovers, Augusto Lisboa in the Alfama neighborhood is a perfect starting point. Here, you can enjoy delicious homemade treats before heading off to explore St. George’s Castle and the surrounding charming streets. If traditional Portuguese dishes are what you’re after, Crisfama offers a cozy atmosphere and incredibly filling portions, especially their grilled fresh fish.

During a stay at the Four Seasons Hotel, treat yourself to the delightful tasting menu at Varanda Restaurant. Renowned for its amazing dishes, including lobster and exquisite wines, it’s one of Lisbon’s top spots for a luxurious meal.

For an evening meal, Frade dos Mares treats guests with its famous grilled octopus. On the other hand, Byf Steakhouse is perfect for red-meat lovers, though a bit tricky to find, so plan ahead if you have a reservation.

A Venda Lusitana is a must-visit for Portuguese tapas enthusiasts. Their sausages and cheese paired with a rich wine menu are simply delightful. While closer to Fonte Luminosa, A Avo Tinha is known for its welcoming atmosphere and dishes like black pork lagartinhos and grilled alheira, which are highly recommended.

For Mediterranean flavors, head to Meson Andaluz, where dishes like patatas bravas and ceviche are beautifully prepared. For an early dinner, Restaurante Sacramento offers a delightful seafood selection, including tasty grilled prawns, beef cheeks, and açorda, located conveniently near the Carmo Convent.

Near Rato Metro Station, S Restaurante serves a refreshing octopus salad, perfect for hot days. Do keep in mind that extra items like bread and cheese typically aren’t complimentary, so politely decline if you don’t want them.

Claras em Castelo in Alfama offers a quaint and intimate dining experience with delicious food such as pica pau, a tasty meaty stew. Note that they currently only accept cash.

For something informal, head to Bonjardim for piri-piri chicken, known for its juicy meat and piri oil side, on their lovely terrace, especially popular in summer. Afterwards, try a cherry liquor at A Ginginha in town, a local favorite.
