11 Spine-Chilling Halloween Food Ideas to Experiment With

We’ve all found ourselves searching for the perfect Halloween food ideas, whether it’s for kids, university buddies, or a haunted house party. Sometimes, figuring out what to make can be quite a challenge! Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year, and my friends and I absolutely love celebrating it. Our day is usually packed with lots of fake blood, creative makeup, and an overall spooky vibe.

Before we head out for a night in London, we always kick things off with a Halloween party at home, complete with Bloody Marys and a feast of Halloween-themed treats.

For me, Halloween is all about dressing up, so I prefer party dishes that are quick and easy to prepare but still have a spooky twist. I’m all for taking shortcuts in the kitchen, especially if it means more time to focus on our costumes. Here are some of my favorite Halloween food ideas that I’ve whipped up for our parties.

I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a cheat when it comes to making some Halloween treats—I often buy pre-made cookies. If you’re into baking from scratch, that’s fantastic! Once you have your cookies, sandwich clotted or thick cream between two, drizzle with raspberry or strawberry sauce (the “blood”), and add two berries for eyes. These are my simple yet creepy “cannibal cookies.”

One of the easiest spooky snacks to make involves bananas. Slice up a bunch and stand them upright. Use a tube of chocolate icing to dot eyes (and a mouth, if you like). They’re one of the simplest ghostly treats to put together.

For another easy snack, you’ll need sliced Edam cheese. Cut each slice three-quarters of the way up and roll into a tube shape, pinching the top. Insert a thin breadstick at the top to create a ‘witch’s broom.’ They’re much more fun than a typical cheese and pineapple stick.

Petrified pizzas are another quick idea. Just grab some prepared pizzas to bake at home. Shape mozzarella cheese into little ghosts and give them a try in the oven for about 12-18 minutes. Add black olives for creepy spider toppings. A few drops of Tabasco sauce can add a spicy kick.

For a spooky burger twist, get quality burgers of your choice, some crusty rolls, olives, cheese slices, pickles, and plenty of ketchup. Cook the burgers, place them in the rolls, add cheesy teeth and pickles for a tongue. Use cocktail sticks to secure olives on top as eyes. Ketchup works perfectly for a “bloody” effect.

To make some spooky sushi, use white rice, wasabi, fresh salmon, and seaweed paper. Shape the rice into balls, cover with salmon, and use seaweed paper to add details like eyes and cuts. Add wasabi for extra “bloody” effects.

For a healthy option, try making “angry apples.” Cut apples into quarters and scoop out a small groove in the middle. Fill with peanut butter and a strawberry slice for a tongue. Add icing eyes and sunflower seeds for teeth.

For a more involved treat, make sausage mummies. Wrap sausages with puff pastry strips and bake until golden. Use cheese and pepper seeds for eyes or icing for a different look. Serve with ketchup to finish the cute Halloween dish.

Quick gravestone brownies start with store-bought or homemade brownies cut into rectangles. Add a biscuit or wafer gravestone, with RIP written in icing. Sprinkle some citrus zest for grass, and you can decorate further with icing figures if desired.

Finally, spider muffins are a quick and easy treat. Use fresh muffins and stick in licorice laces for legs. Use small candies, berries, or icing for eyes to transform them into a creepy treat.

Without any alcohol, you can whip up a tasty Virgin Bloody Mary with tomato juice, Worcester sauce, Tabasco, and seasonings. Add a slice of lemon and a stick of celery. For adults, a splash of vodka can turn it into a traditional cocktail. While it’s not the spookiest option, it’s definitely delicious!
