I’ve been meaning to share this for a while now. It’s been almost six months since our trip to Ibiza, where I indulged in delicious Spanish food and then got back into shape at The Body Camp. It’s about time I update you on how things have gone since losing all that weight in just a week.
I’m not one for quick fixes. Sure, I love a fast solution, but I prefer something that lasts. That’s why I’ve steered clear of extreme diets or intense workouts that I can’t maintain.
As you know, Lloyd and I lost a bunch of weight in Ibiza, along with a few inches. But, the main goal was to keep the weight off and maintain a balance between enjoying food and what I’ve learned. Basically, I wanted to eat what I loved without gaining weight.
Right after Ibiza, I went straight to Burger King. I could blame the lack of healthier options at the airport (it was off-season), but honestly, there were a couple of places with better choices, and I just ignored them. I went all in with a meal that basically matched my calorie intake for a day at The Body Camp.
And I have no regrets. It felt right, like a return to normal life after being in the “bubble” of The Body Camp, where we were spoiled with a personal chef in a luxurious Ibiza mansion.
That night, I partied at my cousin’s house and went clubbing with friends, enjoying my drinks and late-night snacks. I did regret the hangover the next day, though.
The real change happened when I got back home to do my weekly grocery shopping. I became more conscious of my choices and skipped the sweets aisle. I realized I only ate them if they were around but didn’t actually miss them when they weren’t. I’m never at home thinking I crave popcorn, but if it’s there, I’d eat a huge bag in one sitting.
By making small, healthier choices, I wasn’t drastically changing my diet, just cutting out the unnecessary extras. I still enjoyed wine and beer. By the end of the first week, my weight stayed stable, even with wine and a similar diet.
Fast forward to a month later, I was still enjoying the same foods (hello, carbs and occasional wine!), but choosing more greens and fruits over sweets, and not eating when I wasn’t hungry. In the past, I’d overload my plate and struggle to finish, like with those towering piles of spaghetti.
Oh, and I kept moving, sort of. I went for a couple of 20-minute runs—or more like running for two minutes and walking for three because it was sunny outside. Since I had the running gear, I figured, why not use them?
By the end of the month, I lost another three pounds! I didn’t feel like I’d done much to deserve it, but there it was—a testament to how small changes can make a big difference.
Over time, I’ve found it harder to lose weight (I wasn’t always trying super hard), but my weight usually went up, not down. Losing an additional three pounds this month means I’ve lost 14 pounds in total.
These days, I’ve been more indulgent. Traveling means I can’t control my diet much, and I’m not an avid exerciser. I ran once more between now and then, yet somehow expected to gain weight. But when I checked the scales a few days ago, I lost another three pounds! So now, I’ve lost a total of 14 pounds.
Three pounds in five months might not seem huge, but it’s the lowest I’ve been in ages. We started tracking our weights about five years ago, and looking back, it’s been interesting to see the changes.
Reflecting on it, I’ve just been more mindful about my choices. Don’t overeat breakfast for fear of being hungry later. Go ahead and enjoy the family pack of popcorn, but not every day. Never let yourself get too hungry—that’s when poor decisions happen. I’d like to say I’ve drank less wine, but that wouldn’t be honest.
Another major benefit from Ibiza was the confidence boost. Tackling that 12k hike changed how I approached physical challenges. It’s why I hiked to the Rainbow Mountains in Peru, something I wouldn’t have attempted before. This change has opened up so many more adventures during our travels.
Ultimately, I wanted to share this to show how small changes can have a big impact. It’s absolutely worth starting today, no matter how tiny the change!
