The Endless Journey of a Lifetime Traveller

The Endless Journey of a Lifetime Traveller

My love for traveling began when I was young, and I vividly remember our first big family trip to Antigua. I really enjoyed the journey itself, from clicking the seat belt effortlessly to sucking on little pear-flavored candies that helped with my ears popping. The views transitioned from the cloudy skies of home to a stunning blue that stretched deep into the stratosphere. It was a magical experience then, and it still feels the same way now.

I also recall spending a lot of time pressed against the airplane window, until my parents surprised me by arranging a visit to the cockpit. The captain kindly allowed me to sit with him once we were in the air. I was amazed by all the “robotic” buttons and instruments, and the pilot explained exciting things about speed and pointed out other planes flying beside us. He even let me shake his hand. That thrilling experience made me feel incredibly lucky and excited.

From that day, I dreamed of becoming a pilot. However, I later discovered that my color blindness meant I could never pursue this goal. Despite this, the dream hasn’t completely faded, and I’ve redirected my passion towards something achievable—traveling. Although I couldn’t become a pilot, I still cherish the romantic idea of hopping on a plane to far-off destinations. As I’ve grown older, I’ve realized that my love for travel is really about seeking new experiences.

These experiences are invaluable to me, whether it’s thrilling activities like whale watching in Iceland, skiing in the Austrian Alps, or exploring Maya Bay in Thailand. Equally important are the simpler moments, like enjoying Moussaka in Samos, taking a small catamaran with my mom in Barbados despite our fears, and being tossed around on deck.

Sharing these experiences with loved ones and friends is why I blog about travel—sharing and learning through experiences is essential. I’ve come to understand that everyone travels in their own way. We all embark on journeys, whether figuratively, symbolically, or literally, and it doesn’t always require a flight. Ultimately, traveling is all about the experiences we gain.

I still hold onto the desire to be a pilot, but now I truly value how my experiences with places have made me a traveler at heart.
