We arrived in Newfoundland and Labrador late at night and pretty much just had dinner and went to bed, getting ready for a packed day in St. John’s. I’ve wanted to visit this place for ages after seeing some photos online, so I was thrilled to finally make it here.
To kick off our day, we joined a local tour, which was super helpful given the size of the area. We drove through the city and made our way to The Battery, known for its colorful houses on hillsides.
The scenery reminded me of Norway with its vibrant colors and textures, though it had a surprising Irish vibe. This unexpected connection made our 24-hour trip even more intriguing.
Leaving The Battery and its fishermen behind, we headed to Cape Spear, the easternmost point in North America. Although no whales were spotted that day, the views from the lighthouse were breathtaking.
St. John’s met all my expectations with its laid-back, colorful, and scenic charm. We continued to Signal Hill, offering fantastic views over the city and surrounding nature—a true highlight of Canadian travel.
We then visited Quidi Vidi village, a charming spot worth returning to, especially for its popular restaurant highly recommended by locals.
For lunch, we stopped at a café near our hotel for some delicious fare like poutine, calamari, and steaks with eggs.
In the afternoon, Maurice from Far East Photography showed us around his beautiful hometown, revealing Newfoundland’s strong Irish roots. Hearing the locals speak, you’d easily think you were in Ireland!
Exploring Pouch Cove, Flatrock, and Cape St. Francis, we were reminded of why visiting St. John’s had been on my list for so long. The unspoiled nature here stood out from other parts of Canada we’d been to.
After thanking Maurice for his hospitality, we returned to St. John’s for dinner at Chinched. The meal was fantastic—ceviche, salmon, pigs ears, and a delightful dessert of churros and a chocolate sundae.
Feeling content and full from a day of exploration and good food, we headed back to The Sheraton, eager to explore more of St. John’s the next day.
