Oh, macarons… These colorful little treats from France are known everywhere, but I can’t help but wonder if they’re really worth all the hype. I’ve tried them before, and while they’re okay, I’ve never felt like I couldn’t stop eating them. Honestly, I find them pretty forgettable. To me, they seem overrated and liked mainly because they’re pricey and photogenic for social media, rather than being exceptional in taste.
Coming from someone with a serious sweet tooth, that’s quite a statement. Unlike those who casually enjoy sweets, I’ve been known to suck on sugar cubes as a kid—kind of like giving treats to a horse. I prefer sweet wine over wines like Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, or Merlot. Desserts are always my favorite on a menu, and in Paris, I’ve had crème brûlée and wine for dinner more than once. I’m a huge fan of anything sweet!
I’ve tasted macarons in the UK, and perhaps my mistake is that I haven’t tried them from La Durée in Paris, even after several visits. I usually pass by the shop without feeling the urge to go in. Would that change my opinion? I’m not sure. I doubt it, as you don’t need to go to Belgium to enjoy great Belgian chocolate or waffles, right? But I’d like to hear your thoughts on this.
So, what do you think about macarons? Are they really that amazing? Would a visit to La Durée turn me into a macaron fan?
