A guide to the Faroe Islands can really come in handy, especially on your first visit. Tucked between Scotland and Iceland, this tiny nation is one of Europe’s most beautiful spots to explore. Despite its remote feel, it’s actually quite accessible and closer than you might think.

This small group of islands feels like one of Europe’s last untouched frontiers, adding to its unique charm. Just a quick flight from cities like Copenhagen or Edinburgh, the Faroe Islands should definitely be on your list for a European getaway.

Check out the highlights of what to see, do, and eat during your stay in the Faroe Islands below.

First off, packing is key when you’re heading to the Faroe Islands. Knowing what to bring can be a bit tricky, so be sure to check out our complete packing list to ensure you’re prepared for every adventure.

You have a couple of options for getting to the Faroe Islands:

1. Flying: The quickest and most efficient way is by air, with Atlantic Airways offering direct flights from Edinburgh and Copenhagen. If you’re connecting through these cities, consider spending a few extra days exploring them as well.

2. Boat: You can also arrive by boat, often as part of a cruise through Nordic countries or on a trip to Iceland. However, keep in mind that rough seas can sometimes prevent the ferry from docking.

There are no trains in the Faroe Islands, so renting a car is the best way to get around. You can pick up a rental at the airport, and the roads are excellent. If driving isn’t an option, private tours or taxis are available, but they can be pricey if you plan to see a lot.
