Seattle is one of my favorite cities in the U.S. It kind of reminds me of Edinburgh in the UK, not because of how it looks, but more because of the city’s vibe. It’s big enough to not feel cramped, but small enough to feel cozy. While checking out some cool things to do in Seattle, we decided to hop on a ferry to the beautiful Bainbridge Island.
Bainbridge Island is a quaint spot near Seattle, with a much smaller population, around twenty thousand people. It has been voted as one of the best places to live in the U.S., which made it a no-brainer to visit. I didn’t know what to expect, but I instantly fell in love with its peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. I’m not exaggerating—it was love at first sight. It’s the picture-perfect suburban island with charming houses, white picket fences, and a welcoming vibe. The locals are incredibly friendly, and there’s a strong sense of community as soon as you arrive.
If you’re ever in Seattle, even if just for a day, try to spend an hour or two touring the island. It’s really worth it! You can catch a ferry from Seattle for just $7.85, although prices are lower for commuters. The ferry terminal is walkable from Pike Place Market, and the ride takes about 35 minutes. You can even bring a car, bicycle, or other vehicles on the ferry, which is pretty convenient.
Once on Bainbridge Island, explore the local grocers and charming boutiques. There’s always something happening, and many little stores to browse. Check out the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art and the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum. Walking is the best way to see the island, including spots like Fort Ward Park, the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial, and the Bloedel Reserve.
Make sure to stay for lunch! Try Via Rosa 11 for the best fresh pasta, indulge in fish and chips at the Harbour Public House, or enjoy some seafood or chowder at Hitchcock. You’ll leave feeling completely satisfied.
